Some of you might know that there was a limited EP available during Julias Tour in february. There were 7 CDs, one for each evening of the tour. People wrote their names on a piece of paper and put it in a box while Julia played her set. At the end of each show there was one lucky person whose piece of paper got pulled ouf the magical box. Well, we thought it would be a shame if only 7 people on this planet were privileged to listen to these wonderful songs. So we decided to release this EP and added an extra song, which is a live recording from Julias show in Hannover. We hope you will enjoy this lovely EP as much as we do. There are quite a few new aspects and sounds on “seven”. Some of them may be seen somewhere between “Hypersomnia” and “Hydrophobia“, while others give us a glimpse of the future and some might even look back into the past of EFTB. So go now, listen for your self and please enjoy your imaginary journey! But watch out for spiders and little birds, that suddenly may appear in front of you. Animals are everywhere!

Quotes:

(KRAFTFUTTERMISCHWERK)

Entertainment For The Braindead delivers loving folk tunes that include a plethora of various effects, like paper ripping in opening track “Paper”. Kotowski, who (to my knowledge) plays all instruments on the album, picks up the flute on “Souvenirs” while “It Flew Away” has one of the more intriguing guitar melodies and vocal styling of any EFTB songs. Where “Animals” finds Kotowski stacking several vocal parts, she’s not above dabbling in the instrumental, as heard in “Then It Started Speaking To Me”. (FENSEPOST)

Soft, intimate and beautiful. (FREE ALBUMS GALORE)

  4. [...] 32. [...] You’re probably getting the idea by now that a cursory exploration of free music throws up artists from a pretty wide range of places. In keeping with that, Entertainment for the Braindead is from Cologne, Germany. The project is the brainchild of Julia Kotowski, and she deals in oh-so-soft, dreamy acoustic pop. A little rough round the edges recording-wise, she’s a hell of a comedown energy-wise from the muscular Talco, but she has her own appeals. Among her free releases is the EP Seven (+1) which was originally a tour release of only 7 (count ‘em!) copies. Although it’s pretty consistently quiet, there are lots of fascinating sounds here, especially the harmonies, shuffles, and warbling guitar of “Souvenirs”. This is the kind of music you can use to help you get to sleep – hushed, unreliant on brash hooks and loud noises, but able to capture a dreamily pleasant atmosphere. The EP is available from the lovely Aaahh netlabel. [...]
